If you pass three times can you still win?

My opponent and I each have one unplayable letter left. Is the winner dependent on who passes first?

I don't know the answer to that. I know that if there are three passes in a row that the game ends but I don't remember who ends up winning. I think it is the person with the highest score minus the points in your hand.

After the third pass the person with the most points wins. It's a great trick if you have a lead and are playing a moron. Just start passing until they pass too and victory is yours.

Never pass if you're behind.

And never trust "unplayable". Sure there are no two letter words with V or C, but quite often there's still a Vā“„ā“ƒ or a Cā“„ā’¹ waiting to be played.
