Cheating accusations unfounded?

0 votes
Twice this month in daily games, my opponent has docked my rating and insinuated that I have cheated, based on the use of one word each game. The first was "mufti" and the second was "cetacean". I play a great many word games and have a relatively large vocabulary as a teacher and voracious reader. Both of those words, while not ones I would use in daily conversation by any means, are words I know and have used. Is there any recourse against such unfounded accusations? I love the game and have played many friendly players here, but this has frustated me this month!

The ratings provided by players can include many factors including speed of play, chat or "cheating. We are unable to remove the ratings provided by opponents. We do remove comments if we feel that they are improper.

It is very frustrating to be accused of cheating by a lower-level player! I feel your pain. Often, if you come in late in the month on the Daily, you will be matched against less-experienced players, skill noticeable in their placement strategy as well as in word choices. I don't know what the answer is for explaining to these young pups that, just because they have never heard the words ANKH or THENCE, crying foul is unwarranted. At my advanced age this seems but one of the many areas of social discourse where basic civility is lacking -- but overall level of WWF daily players compensates. Good luck in your next match!

Playing an unusual word is not really a sign of cheating.  I know I am playing a cheater when they play a bingo in under a minute off of a word I just played.  And they do that over and over in the game.  And, if those bingo words are very unusual, that is even more evidence.  I estimate 70% of the players on this site cheat.  It is frustrating to play against them.  I do not mind losing to someone who is playing honest.  But I hate losing to a cheater.  The cheaters are driving the honest players away from this site.
yeah, my personal favorite is when that obscure Bingo also contains a blank tile. Yet the person just nails it down effortlessly. Give me a break! I know occasionally a string of letters just suddenly makes sense to you right off the bat, but this an exception and not the rule; instantaneous bingos *repeatedly* is a definite red flag in my book.

edit: The problem is, with so many cheaters out there, a lot of the time it becomes difficult to distinguish the cheaters from players who are actually just legitimately skilled (particularly in cases where the suspected cheating is not so blatant). So then you get the above described case where wrongful accusations are being tossed around. There is always that suspicion.
